The Blue Hole was formed during one of the ice ages. At this time it was dry and because of its limestone makeup, the limestone rich water formed stalagmites and stalactites. Some of these are nearly 30' long and nearly 8' in diameter! The Blue Hole is almost 1000' across, fringed by coral.

TURNEFFE ATOLL
Turneffe has some of the most pristine diving to be found in Belize. "The Elbow", on the south end of the Turneffe Atoll, is a favorite among openwater and advanced divers. The current that sweeps along the wall invites schools of Dog and Cubera Snappers, Bermuda Chub, Horse-eye Fack, Permit, and on occasion schools of sharks. The spur and groove formation is tremendous, with the tops of the spurs averaging 60-65' of depth and the grooves averaging 85-100' of depth. Divers have come across turtles, spotted eagle rays, dolphins, and even an Atlantic Blue Marlin. On a scale of 1 to 10, this dive is awesome when it is a 5, and unbelievable when it is a 10! Best of all, it's only about an hour from the Radisson marina!
